For years now motels have been the preferred option for hitch hikers and those looking for cheap accommodation while their en route to their destination. The main reason for people to prefer motels is the fact that they are cheap and offer you all the basic facilities that are required for a temporary stay. And today these motels have become a lot more safe than they used to be a few years ago.
But one can never be accused of being unreasonable in taking a few precautions while staying at any highway motel. And that is precisely why this article has been written; to help you stay safe! Read on!
Safety Checklist:
The first precaution that you need to take is check the perimeter and premises of the motel. If you find any suspicious individuals or activities in progress then it best that you move to another motel. This may make you frustrated but it is better to be safe than sorry! Often your instincts will tell you whether it is safe to stop or no. Base your decisions on it.
Once all the initial formalities have been completed and you have checked in to your room in the motel, make sure you survey it visually and also check the walls and other items in it for any hidden cameras and other suspicious objects. Check under the sink and in any decorative showpieces for the same. If you do happen to find any such object DO NOT touch them. Call the police and file a report for the same.
Lastly, always make it a point to make use of the peepholes on the door before letting anybody enter your room. Many motels even have separate peepholes for children and adults for enhanced safety. So make it a point to explain to your children to always make use of them for their own safety while staying at a motel.
